Crochet Bucket Hat

It has been a perfect summer day. We spent the morning at the pool, enjoying the water and sunshine which wore Ande out so much that he took a 3 hour nap. Hallelujah! That gave me a lot of time to work on this bucket hat (which will be included in the updated Etsy shop). Those 3 hours gave me plenty of time to crochet and un-crochet the hat a good 3 or 4 times.

And now, Ande is halfway to dream land and I am enjoying the first good thunder storm of the summer. I love when it pours the rain at night with thunder rumbling in the background. So calming.

The only place I can get my mini Mozart to sit still is the piano bench.

Cheese!

I also want to let everyone know that each and every hat going into my updated shop will be made with 100% cotton yarn. They are soft, sturdy, washable and breathable.

New Crochet Hats Update

I'm going to have carpel tunnel before this is all over. I am so excited about these new crochet flower hats that I can't stop myself from making more. So, hopefully there will be others who like them too!

Also, I just wanted to point out that I added a tab up at the top for my family blog, Love City: Population 3. If you don't already read it and want to see frequent pictures of a toe headed, pot-bellied 1 year old then this is the blog for you!

Bow Ties and Applesauce

If you ask Curtis and Ande, I think they would both agree that I've been a little moody lately. Well...I've probably been moody since I first got pregnant with Ande. I'm not sure why this is and while I was driving around this morning, I realized ridiculous I've been! It's almost as if I've been finding reasons to be mad about something, anything. So, why can't I just be happy?

Well I can, and I am...happy, that is. I have a pretty great life and there's no need to be worried about silly little things like Ande refusing a nap once in a while.

I'm happy when my boys are lookin' all handsome for church every Sunday.
(I was so excited for Ande to finally wear the bow tie I made him! Isn't he just presh?)

I decided to let Ande try feeding himself the most simply delicious concoction I've ever made today at lunch (applesauce and strawberry yogurt) . He's really good with a fork, but a spoon... not so much. He got more in his lap than his mouth, but it was okay. I didn't even sweat it, I just enjoyed watching Ande enjoy himself.
It really made me smile to watch Ande say, "Forget the spoon! I'm just going to lap it up!"
And last but not least, if you have checked out my Craft Blog lately, then you would have seen my latest crochet hat creations. I can't explain how excited I am about these new hats! They are simple, yet so stinkin' adorable that I can't stop looking at them. I'm going to keep posting pictures of them as I make them. In August, these lovely hats and many other new goodies will be added as I revamp my Etsy Shop, so don't forget to check it out!

Crochet Hat- Sneak Peek!

Lucky you! For you few people that actually read this blog, you are getting a sneak peek into the future of my Etsy shop, Curtsay Designs. I have started working on a whole new line of crochet hats with these adorable (and removable) flowers.

These versatile flowers are not only the perfect accent for the hats, but they can also be worn as hair clips, broaches, or attached to headbands.

These hats, in many different color and size options, will be introduced to my shop in August, just in time for the fall weather to kick in. So, save your pennies!

Framed Mirror Re-Do

This beautiful mirror didn't always look like this:

It used to look like this:
(we taped newspaper to the middle for spray painting purposes)
When I was 12 my Grandmother gave me an entire vintage bedroom set. I say "vintage" because I'm still not sure how old it was even back then. The set came with a bed, 2 dressers, and this lovely, humongous mirror. To my mother's dismay, Curt and I have taken to upgrading these pieces of furniture. We've already redone one dresser (which is now white and brown with new nobs) for our bedroom. And 2 nights ago, we took charge with this mirror...
Here it is in all it's glory:

Belated Father's Day Post

I was actually on my way to downloading some pictures of my newest project when I realized I still hadn't posted my little Father's Day project.

With the help of a little scrapbook paper, scissors, and mod podge, I was able to create this cute sign for my tool-crazed hubby. It's not up there yet, but hopefully we'll put it up on the shed door soon...

Kiss, Climb, Jump, Run, and Discover

Steal kisses...
Climb to new heights...
Jump for joy...
Run into someone's arms...
Discover the world...

Just a few inspirational thoughts for the week.

My Diaper n' Wipes Clutch

I've seen many different takes on the "diaper clutch." Most of which are a little purse-like pouch. I took the idea in a different direction. I wanted something that would hold my wipes and diapers together, but also something that offered easy access to the wipes lid. So here is how I did it, see what you think...
1. Cut your fabric to size and shape.

2. The shape I use has two tails on each side. When finished, they will fold over the wipes case and diapers, and Velcro over each other. You will be left with a perfect little opening to open the case and pull out some wipes.
3. Measure and cut your Velcro. You will then pin the Velcro pieces to the 4 tails.
4. For a little extra flair, I wanted to add ruffles to my case. These are quick and easy to do. I cut one long piece of fabric about 2". Fold and then sew down the long edge.
5. As you sew, you will want to fold the edge over (pictured above) so that you will have finished edges. Turn this piece right side out and iron. You must now sew a basting stitch down the middle of this long piece. Do not back stitch so that you can pull the thread and cause it to gather.
6. I ended up using two ruffles. Now, place the ruffle where you want it, pin, and sew down the middle of each ruffle.

7. You are now ready to place your two sides together with right sides facing in. Pin these pieces and sew around.
8. Make sure to leave an opening so that you can turn the piece right side out.
9. Once you have turned the piece right side out, iron it flat and then sew around the entire piece again. This will allow you to fold in the open hole and sew it up.
10. Ta-Da! You are done! Take your diapers and wipes case and place them in the middle of the fabric piece. Fold your tails over the diapers and wipes case and Velcro them shut.

Easy to make and easy to use.
How did you do?

Bow Tie

I made this little bow tie for Ande. It seriously only took about 10 minutes to make! I can't wait for him to wear it to church on Sunday although, he pulls it off every time I put it on him! He will just have to get used to it though because I am going to make more!
